Historian, member of the Russian Helsinki Group, chief editor of the Radio Sakharov and head of the media project “Strana i Mir: Sakharov Review”. In 2008-2023, he served as director of the Sakharov Center in Moscow (museum and cultural center devoted to the preservation of the legacy of prominent physicist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Andrei Sakharov). In 1999-2004, he headed monitoring programs by the Moscow Helsinki Group and edited its annual human rights reports. In 1992-1998, he contributed to Memorial’s program “The History of the Dissident Movement”. Lukashevsky is the author of a number of articles on the history of the dissident movement in the Soviet Union and the human rights situation in Russia. Laureate of the 2015 Moscow Helsinki Group Award and the 2024 Human Rights Award of the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
